Chinese Nationals Arrested in Vietnam For Forex Scam

The police of central Quang Binh province apprehended 11 people, including two Chinese, for running an online forex scam.

Two Chinese with Malaysian ancestry, according to the police, were in charge of the ring. They educated hundreds of Vietnamese people in Cambodia to discover victims and entice them to invest in forex trading through the RosyStyle trading platform.

A total of 24 bank accounts were proven to have been used to receive money from victims. Since late 2021, the organization has targeted Vietnamese citizens and swindled more than VND1.8 million.

Given the risks of internet fraud, the police advised consumers to be wary of advertisements for foreign-invested trading platforms with high interest rates and to report any signs of misappropriation to the appropriate authorities.

On May 18, the police also issued a warning against bogus stock investment apps that have capitalized on the public’s growing interest in the stock market. Many people have been scammed by these apps, losing hundreds of millions of Vietnamese Dong.

The authority believes that, in addition to using technology to prevent online scams, it is critical to encourage communication and dissemination of online frauds to as many people as possible.

“When every citizen understands how to identify different types of fraud, they will be more vigilant,” Hung added.

As a result, he said, the ministry launched the “Action month to disseminate identification and prevention of online fraud” campaign between June 23 and July 23.

The campaign was widely publicized in the media and on social media in order to provide people with adequate information about online fraud, including video clips of popular online scams, guidance on identifying 24 types of scams, and the distribution of a set of manuals to help citizens protect themselves and their families in cyberspace.
