Editorial Policies and Principles
Asia Trading News (AT-N)’s overarching objective is to empower readers, inspire the Asian financial community, and inform the globe through sound, trustworthy, and fact-based reporting and analysis. Our mission is to boost public trust in the media.
Our key beliefs in this regard include accuracy, fairness, transparency, impartiality, humanity, and privacy. We publish factual, fair, and honest journalism; we separate opinion from reporting; we publicly admit mistakes and faults; and we make every effort to avoid causing harm.
Editorial Ethics Code
Accuracy
Asia Trading News (AT-N) does not publish information or images that are false, misleading, or distorted, including headlines that lack supporting text. For us, accuracy is more than just getting the facts correct. It is also critical to analyze all relevant facts and information in order to arrive at the truth. Our writings are well-sourced, evidence-based, fact-checked, and straightforward.
Fair reporting provides necessary background and context, does not omit relevant data, and seeks to be honest with readers, particularly about what we know and do not know. We strive to present all relevant perspectives in our stories, ensuring that they are balanced and add context.
Transparency
We are open about the origins of the stuff we publish. We always link to original sources; we endeavor to guarantee that information is given in a timely manner, that it is correct, and that it is intelligible in context. Unless there are security concerns, we always identify our authors.
Impartiality
All subject matter will be treated with impartiality. We seek to convey a range of viewpoints: being impartial does not imply being uncritical or refraining from editorial expression. We clearly distinguish between news and opinion. All information that is an opinion or analysis will be clearly labeled as such.
Accountability
The ability to hold ourselves accountable is the bedrock of good journalism. When we make mistakes, we will own them and remedy them. We will pay attention to our audience’s issues.
Journalists should not cause harm, therefore, we are aware of the influence our words, stories, and photographs have on the lives of others.
Independence and editorial integrity
Asia Trading News (AT-N) is not constrained, bound, or indebted to outside interests or arrangements that could jeopardize our editorial independence. Outside interests, political or financial forces, or personal interests have no bearing on our editorial judgments.
Policies Governing Our Journalism Standards
Corrections and Accuracy
At Asia Trading News, we are accountable to our readers as “broadcasters” of information for the truth of the material we publish (on our website, including graphics, visuals, headlines, and social media platforms). All of our content must be correct, and correctness is founded on verification. We double-check all of the material we publish. We are not infallible as editors and writers. As a result, we realize that mistakes can occur, and when they do, we correct them and notify our readers. Corrections are beneficial to both the reader and the public record. We feel that being honest about our mistakes is essential for building trust with our readers.
Plagiarism and Attribution
We only publish original content. We do not offer the reporting of other media outlets as our own. When we use news from other sources, we clearly attribute it to hyperlinks on our platform. Our editorial team checks that any information utilized from other sources is explicitly attributed to the journalist, writer, or expert who contributed to the content on our website during the proofreading and copy-editing process.
Quotations
When we include direct quotes in our work, they must accurately portray what was written or stated. We frequently “clean up” quotes to remove grammatical faults and other distinctive speech idioms. We strive to guarantee that our content does not sound incoherent because the majority of it is translated or comes from sources that are not native English speakers. To ensure that the quotations are properly contextualized, we will include if the statement was in answer to a query and whether it came from email or social media.
Anonymity and Source Protection
In rare cases, we will conceal/change the source’s name for security reasons. Journalism, particularly ethical journalism, frequently relies on confidential sources that supply information that those in power will seek to keep secret. If such a situation arises, Asia Trading News’ editorial team will decide whether or not to publish information obtained from confidential sources if it is in the public interest.
Requests for Removal
We do not remove content from our website unless there are exceptional circumstances.
